Civil Rights and Public Sector Law

Our attorneys have extensive experience representing the State of New Mexico and the state’s municipalities, counties, and other political subdivisions. We routinely defend public entities in civil rights actions brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.

We also represent police and sheriff’s departments throughout the state in matters alleging wrongful arrest, unlawful search and seizure, excessive force, wrongful death, termination of employment without due process of law, and jail-based violations of constitutional rights.

In addition, we represent public entities in claims brought under the New Mexico Tort Claims Act, including matters involving premises liability, negligent operation of utilities, medical malpractice, and law enforcement liability.
